Competent Crew course Beginner level
There is no assumed knowledge for the course which, is over 5 days covering a minimum of 100 miles and an experience of night hours. The course can be completed over weekends or 5 continuous days.

The subjects covered are:

Basic seamanship
helmsmanship
Navigation
Meteorology
Nautical terms
Knots

After the course students should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day routines onboard a cruising yacht

THE RYA DAY SKIPPER TIDAL PRACTICAL COURSE – Intermediate Level

Pre-course requirements are 5 days onboard,100 miles,4 night hours.
Navigation to Day Skipper
Shorebased standard and basic
sailing ability.

This is the minimum requirement for chartering abroad with certificate holders automatically entitled to an International Certificate of Competence (ICC). The course includes the following

Passage planning and preparation for sea
Meteorology – reading weather forecasts
Rules of the road
Maintenance & repair
Pilotage, – planning for harbour entry and departure
